The deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland, Maciej Wonsik, said that the border service of the republic signed contracts with contractors on the construction of a fence on the border with Belarus amid the migration crisis. RIA Novosti reports.
“Today the Border Guard has signed agreements. Three major contracts for the construction of the fence, ”Wonsik announced. According to him, the construction of the wall made of steel will be completed in the summer of 2022.
Violeta Gozhkovskaya, deputy chief commandant of the Polish Border Guard, said that the wall would be 186 kilometers long.
The country's parliament approved the initiative to build protective lines at the end of October.
The total length of the Belarusian-Polish border is almost 400 kilometers. There are 12 checkpoints on the border. The decision to build a wall in Warsaw was made after the migration crisis began in early November on the eastern border of the country. Thousands of refugees from the Middle East approached the barriers at the border and tried to enter the territory of the European Union. The Polish security forces had to use additional forces to contain the pressure of migrants.
