A bug related to a disk drive was found in a new generation set-top box from Sony. About this with reference to user complaints reported by the edition VG247.
A new problem faced by PS5 owners is the increased noise from the device's drive. The journalists noticed that the set-top box can start the drive with the disc even when the corresponding game is not running or the disc should not be used. According to users, the PlayStation 5 starts spinning the disc approximately every 45 minutes.
“At the moment I have a disc with Ghost of Tsushima on my PS5, and it spins even if I play Spider-Man or Demon's Souls,” the publication quotes one of the owners of the console. The drive starts even when the user is launching a digital version of the game or not using the console at all.
The first owners of the PlayStation 5 believed that in this way the console checks for the presence of a disc in the drive and a license for the game. The authors noticed that a similar mechanism was implemented in the PlayStation 4 console, but the previous generation console accessed the disk only when the game was launched.
Journalists suggested that the discovered bug is related to the PS5 software and will be fixed in the next update. They also noticed that the noise of the drive is unlikely to interfere with the game, which is not the case with watching movies or using other PS5 multimedia applications.
Earlier, the first users of the console complained about a bug that did not allow downloading games to the PS5 library. Sony's next-generation console went on sale globally on November 19th.
