Sellers are particularly creative when it comes to justifying prices. But there is also resistance to the high prices.
The long-awaited PlayStation 5 was already on sale – here in the futurezone test. The first consoles have also been delivered in Austria since last Thursday. And as was to be expected, the first PS 5s are being sold on Willhaben at horrific prices.
Sellers in the virtual flea market are asking up to 2,500 euros for a copy of the new Sony console. Prices over 1,000 euros are not uncommon. Numerous usurers mention in the item descriptions that they do not allow discussions about the price.
Creative justification
Sellers get really creative when it comes to justifying the horrendous prices. “Sorry for the price, but my girlfriend got pregnant (I hope from me?), Now I have to sell all my consoles,” writes a Willhaben user from Upper Austria.
Criticism of the prices
The exorbitant prices do not leave the Willhaben community indifferent. One user even placed an ad “To give away” just to warn other users about the high prices and to criticize the pricing policy. “Dear people, you'd better wait 1 or 2 months until you can buy the boxes at the normal price in the store. Then these money-hungry idiots will sit on their boxes,” says the ad.

PlayStation 5 out of print
When the PlayStation 5 will be available in brick-and-mortar stores in Austria is still unclear and will probably also depend on the measures taken to combat the coronavirus pandemic. The console is currently sold out almost everywhere. Sony promises that dealers will continue to be supplied, but whether the PS 5 will even make it into stores before Christmas is in the stars.
