PlayStation 4 lifespan revealed

Released in 2013, the PlayStation will remain relevant for another three or four years. This was stated in an interview with The Washington Post by the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan.

According to Ryan, the PlayStation 4 will last another three or four years due to its large user base. Most of the new game releases will be available on both PS5 and PS4. “We want gamers to know that the console they bought will be in demand in a few years,” a company spokesman said. Jim Ryan noted that Sony is interested in owners of an older version of the console: “tens of millions will continue to use the PS4.”

Ryan also revealed that “99 percent” of the games available on PS4 are backward compatible and will run on PS5. “No one should be left disappointed,” said the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, noting that users should have a choice of which console to play on.

When asked about the PS5, Jim Ryan admitted that the decision on the cost of the console was made long ago. The head of the company said that Sony wanted to sell the new console for the same price as the PlayStation 4 launched in 2013. According to him, with the release of the PS5, more consoles will hit the market than were available when the PS4 premiered.

Ryan also talked about how COVID-19 has impacted the gaming industry. For example, the company did not know whether supplies would be arranged, whether demand was expected, whether stores would open. “Despite everything, it only strengthened our resolve and confirmed that the path we chose at the beginning of the year was absolutely correct,” he concluded.

Sony revealed the pricing of the next generation consoles at an event on September 16. The PlayStation 5 with a floppy drive was priced at $ 499 and the digital version will be available for $ 399. The cost of PS5 in Russia will start at 37,999 rubles, the start of sales is scheduled for November 19.
