Scheduling platform Notion launched a startup support program at the end of September. Company representatives could apply and receive a $ 500 promo code as members of the Notion for Startups program. However, it soon became clear that the promo code works for all users. On October 1, the company released another promo code for $ 1000. It also worked for all users – the sums added up.
This was reported by the vc.ru edition. Access to the pro version of the service is only $ 4 per month, and $ 500 would be enough for more than 10 years of using the platform. Many Russian Telegram channels have published these promotional codes for their subscribers. Each publication received up to 50,000 views. In particular, the author of the Telegram channel “/ designer” Alexander Okunev decided to return the money from the promotional code through the support service. According to him, Notion did not immediately understand what it was about, and recognized the vulnerability in the promotional codes only after the third message.
As noted by the publication, on October 2, the company limited the validity of the promotional code and reset the accounts of users who did not participate in the startup program. Clients who took advantage of the platform error received explanatory emails. “You used the code for Notion that we offer as part of our Notion for Startups program. Unfortunately, this code can only be used by startups, so it has been removed from your profile. We have also changed your tariff plan, ”the letter says.
At the same time, it is noted that the company transferred users to a paid subscription linked to bank cards.
Earlier, the Compound blockchain platform mistakenly sent users a $ 90 million cryptocurrency. Due to a bug, the site transferred 280,000 Comp tokens to users. When the error became known, the founder of the service, Robert Leshner, asked the lucky ones to return the tokens. In exchange for a voluntary return, he allowed himself to keep 10% of the cryptocurrency.
Otherwise, Leshner promised to complain to the tax office and threatened to disclose the personal data of users. The newsletter, according to the head of the company, occurred due to a bug during the update of the smart contract, which is responsible for the distribution of funds. As a result, the contract increased several times the amount of payments that users were entitled to.
