Pets banned tattoos and piercings in Brazil

by alex

In Brazil, the Rio de Janeiro state legislature has banned tattoos and body piercings for pets. Such amendments were made to the regional animal protection law.

One of the authors of this project, MP Carlos Mink, admits that this initiative was prompted by photos of pets with tattoos and piercings spreading on social networks, as well as numerous complaints from animal rights activists.

– You look at the photo and feel horror, you wonder how the owner of an animal, which he, in theory, should love, can subject him to such cruelty, – the Globo TV channel quotes him as saying.

At the same time, veterinarians note that such “decoration” of pets is unsafe and painful. Veterinarian Flavia Klar believes that often people stuffing tattoos on animals are guided by aesthetic considerations, but few of them think about the further problem.

– Some harm is done to their skin, allergies or dermatitis may occur, which will subsequently have to be treated. It can come to tissue necrosis, – explains the veterinarian.
