Russia considers the upcoming negotiations with NATO on proposals on security guarantees in Europe to be a very important step. This was told by the official representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov, reports TASS.
The spokesman for the Russian president added that the details of the upcoming meeting are still being finalized. In particular, in order to approve the date of the negotiations, according to Peskov, it is necessary to convene an expert delegation. He added that these will be very important negotiations, the details of which are being finalized through diplomatic channels.
Dmitry Peskov also stressed that it is equally important for Russia to discuss initiatives on security guarantees in Europe with both the United States and NATO. He recalled that the position of the Russian side was formed after the video summit of the Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that negotiations between Russia and the United States on security guarantees in Europe will take place in early January, right after the New Year holidays. Later, his deputy, Alexander Grushko, added that, in addition, the Russian side is working on the timing and format of the Russia-NATO Council meeting.
