Perseverance rover was first able to get oxygen from Mars

For the first time, the Perseverance rover was able to obtain oxygen from the atmosphere of Mars. The corresponding statement was published on the NASA website.

The test took place on April 20, and oxygen was obtained thanks to the experimental instrument Moxie. As noted in the department, such devices may one day provide astronauts with breathable air.

Earlier in April, it was reported that the photo taken by the Perseverance rover was not actually a rainbow, but a flash from a lens. There can be no rainbow on Mars, according to NASA.

In early March, the Perseverance rover rode the surface of Mars for the first time. The total travel time of the robot was 33 minutes. During this time, he covered 6.5 meters: 4 meters forward and another 2.5 after turning 150 degrees. So scientists tested the equipment of the rover for the subsequent calibration of its systems.

Rover Perseverance landed on the surface of Mars near the crater Jezero on February 18. This is the fifth American rover to visit the planet. Its tasks include collecting soil samples that will be delivered to Earth in about ten years. A system for obtaining oxygen from the atmosphere of Mars and an Ingenuity helicopter, which flew on April 19, are installed on board the device.
