PERM, 31 August. / TASS /. Developers from the Perm National Research Polytechnic University have invented a system of virtual access to museums from anywhere in the world. The expositions are being digitized, the project is planned to be launched at the end of 2021, the press service of the university told reporters on Tuesday.
“There are more than 2 thousand museums in Russia. Developers from the Perm Polytechnic Institute are creating a unified system that will open access to unique exhibitions from anywhere in the world. Digital twins of museums can be viewed using virtual reality. According to the authors of the application, it does not have analogues in Russia “, – the message says.
The developers have already presented the mobile virtual museum “Molotov – the city of labor valor” and noted the high interest of schoolchildren and students in online expositions. The development can also be applied to the creation of virtual museums of industrial enterprises.
At the same time, there are separate studios in Russia for creating VR projects, but so far there is no single system for viewing museum expositions, the developers assure. Viewing in virtual reality glasses will allow “visitors” of the museum to see the exhibits in a full-scale format, as well as fully interact with them.
Those museums that take part in the project will receive 3D models of key exhibits and the opportunity to demonstrate objects on a commercial basis. For viewing, you will need a first and second generation Oculus Quest virtual reality helmet. The user will be able to select the exhibition of interest from the collection base with digitized exhibits. “It will be possible to get acquainted with the museum compositions in the application already at the end of 2021,” the university noted.
