In St. Petersburg on September 21, people protested against the partial mobilization announced in Russia. The security forces began to massively detain the demonstrators.
About 50 people gathered for the protest near St. Isaac's Cathedral.

The protesters became in a clutch, which the security forces are trying to break. They beat the men with clubs. A video was also published showing a whole group of Russian security forces beating a defenseless woman.
Mass detentions of protesters began. The security forces are quite harshly “cleansing” the Gostiny Dvor. People are beaten on the asphalt, their shoes are pulled off and thrown into paddy wagons.
At least 425 anti-mobilization protesters have been detained across Russia, according to OVD-Info.
