Пентагон "нашел" 2 млрд долларов для Украины: где потерялись выделенные деньги

The Pentagon overestimated military aid to Ukraine, using the wrong cost of allocated weapons and ammunition in its calculations.

As a result of the erroneous assessment, the cost of aid was overestimated by $2 billion. Together with similar errors identified last year, the US Department of Defense has already “discovered” $8.2 billion. As a result, additional weapons may be sent to Ukraine to cover the amount of aid approved by the Biden administration.

Reuters reports this, citing a White House report published on Thursday, July 25.

The US Government Accountability Office (GAO – the federal audit, evaluation, and analytical-investigative body of the US Congress) said that the Pentagon faced difficulties in assessing the cost of defense goods sent to Ukraine. The US Department of Defense explained that employees used “replacement cost” instead of “amortized cost” for the calculation.

According to the GAO, the reasons for the erroneous calculations of the cost of the allocated aid were “a vague definition of cost in the law on foreign aid and a lack of specific guidance on the assessment.”

Recall that the UK government ordered a significant number of light multi-purpose Martlet missiles for its own army, and some of them will be transferred to Ukraine. Earlier, the UK had already transferred hundreds of these missiles to Ukraine to repel Russian aggression.
