A representative of the US Department of Defense has not yet answered whether they expect a further increase in the contingent of DPRK troops in the areas bordering Ukraine.

The Pentagon confirmed the presence of a “small number” of DPRK troops in the Kursk region.

This was stated by the US Department of Defense spokesman Patrick Ryder during a briefing on October 29.

“This is approximately several thousand. A smaller number is already present in the Kursk region,” the speaker said.

According to Ryder, there are initial signs that the Russian Federation may use them as infantry against Ukrainian troops, namely soldiers from the DPRK.

He added that he cannot yet confirm that North Korean troops are on the territory of Ukraine itself. The Pentagon is monitoring the situation and consulting with Ukraine.

Earlier, CNN reported, citing two Western intelligence officials, that a small number of North Korean troops are already in Ukraine, and officials expect that number to grow.

Recall that earlier it was reported that North Korean special forces are in Russia to fight on its side against Ukraine. These troops, according to experts, are among the best-trained troops in the North, but they will likely face difficulties adapting to modern warfare.
