The Peace Summit in Switzerland took place from June 15 to 16.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Switzerland Ignazio Cassis said that the most difficult and controversial issue at the Peace Summit was the discussion of the problem of food security for African countries.
The head of the Foreign Ministry said this at a press conference following the results of the first World Summit in Bürgenstock, writes OBOZ.UA.
“Perhaps this is a very personal answer. I took part in a meeting to agree on food security. There were two things there, and one was somewhat obvious. What needs to be said, what does this mean and how the consequences of war greatly affect on Africa. On the level of food security, the level of food prices, hunger and so on. And the African participants very clearly said that we are here because we must solve this problem,” said Ignazio Cassis.
He added that the second discussion issue was “very important and very difficult.” And African representatives want to solve the problem in order to restore food security in their countries.
“And the question, of course, was whether you are willing to solve this problem in the direction of a just and sustainable peace or simply in the direction of peace? You can just have peace, or you can have permanent peace, and not just peace,” the minister said.
According to him, this was precisely the difficult question.
“Because this is a certain dilemma in that they were, they want to solve the problem, but they see that they can solve their problem not in the sense of a just world for Ukraine. And this dilemma in this discussion, for “It was a difficult question for me,” summed up Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.
Recall that African countries explained at the Peace Summit why they are interested in ending the war in Ukraine.
