The Pope, addressing pilgrims after Sunday prayers on July 6 in St. Peter's Square, separately congratulated pilgrims from Ukraine. Leo XIV recalled the full-scale war that Russia had started and stressed the need to establish peace as quickly as possible.

What Leo XIV said to pilgrims from Ukraine

The Pope called on the faithful to pray for peace, so that the Lord would inspire the minds of rulers to prefer dialogue to violence.

Dear ones, peace is the aspiration of all peoples and the painful plea of those who are tortured by war. Let us ask the Lord to touch the hearts and inspire the minds of rulers so that they replace the violence of arms with the search for dialogue, said Leo XIV.

At the beginning of his speech, the Pope greeted the pilgrims, addressing them with the words:

“I cordially greet you all, the faithful of Rome and pilgrims from Italy and from different countries. In the great heat of this period, your journey to the Holy Doors is even more daring and worthy of admiration!”

He subsequently addressed several groups of pilgrims separately, including Greek Catholics from Ukraine, whose presence was met with loud applause.

In addition, the Pope expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the floods in Texas.
