Pavel Durov welcomed “70 million refugees” to Telegram

Telegram founder Pavel Durov reported record growth in new users during the massive Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp outage.

“Yesterday, Telegram saw a record growth in the number of registrations and user activity. The daily growth rate of Telegram exceeded the norm by an order of magnitude, and in one day we accepted more than 70 million refugees from other platforms, ”Durov wrote in his Telegram channel.

He stated that he is proud of how the Telegram team has handled the unprecedented growth. According to Durov, the messenger continued to work “flawlessly” for the vast majority of users, with the exception of a number of users in the Americas.

Durov noted that it was on these continents that the largest influx of new registrations was observed.

The head of Telegram asked experienced users to help their newly arrived friends get used to the messenger in order to stay in it and understand “why Telegram is light years ahead of its competitors.”

“For new users, I want to say this – welcome to Telegram, the largest independent messaging platform. We will not let you down when others do it, ”concluded Pavel Durov.

On Monday, October 4th, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram were unavailable to users around the world due to a global outage. The failure was caused by an internal company error.
