Patriarch Bartholomew will come to Poland to support Ukrainian refugees

Bartholomew was invited by President Andrzej Duda and Primate of the Orthodox Church of Poland, Metropolitan Sawa.

Polish President Andrzej Duda invited Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visit the country and support Ukrainian refugees.

This is reported by the press service of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Duda invited Bartholomew to “bless, please and strengthen the countless number of refugees who found themselves in the country after the start of war in Ukraine”.

“His All-Holiness intends to receive him and visit temporary shelters for refugees there, accompanied by His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon and the Great Syncellus Father Jacob Krochak,” the message says.

When exactly the visit will take place is not indicated.

Vselensk The Patriarch also received a similar invitation from His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw, Primate of the Orthodox Church of Poland. The Polish Orthodox Church is autocephalous. Prior to that, she tacitly supported the Russian Orthodox Church and refused to recognize the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Nevertheless, after the Russian attack on Ukraine, the leadership of the POC called on the Russian authorities, led by Putin, to stop hostilities in Ukraine, calling them “evil and incomprehensible”.

Earlier, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew called for an immediate end to every act of violence in Ukraine.
