Pathetic coward: Lomachenko criticized for silence on Russia after school attack

Russian troops struck Belgorod-Dnistrovsky in Odessa Oblast with ballistic missiles on June 23, destroying a local educational institution.

Former boxer Vasyl Lomachenko, who is a native of the city, responded to the tragedy but did not hold Russia responsible for the crime. This caused a storm of indignation on social media.

Lomachenko's reaction to the Russian attack on the lyceum in Odessa region

In his post on Facebook, Lomachenko posted a photo of the State Emergency Service with a destroyed educational institution and called June 23 a tragic day for all city residents.

Now watching

– Yesterday there were smiles and joy on the faces of the people who came to the graduation, and today there are tears and bitterness! The school that I graduated from, where our children went, was cynically shelled with missiles! The Kingdom of Heaven to the dead! Strength and health to recover the wounded! Peace to all, – the boxer wrote.

Vasily wrote his message in Russian, but forgot to indicate that Russia had struck the lyceum in Belgorod-Dnestrovsky.

Ukrainians React to Lomachenko's Post

The former boxer's post has attracted thousands of comments, mostly outrageous. Public figure and volunteer Serhiy Prytula called Lomachenko a pathetic coward.

He asked Vasily who exactly had struck the city and asked at the end when the boxer would write a statement about renouncing his Ukrainian citizenship.

– Pathetic coward! Who exactly from your city or your entourage must be killed by a Russian missile for you to squeeze out an admission that Russians are killing your fellow countrymen? With the blessing of your shitty Patriarch Kirill! Who is the same devil as you. When are you going to write a statement about renouncing your citizenship?

Lomachenko later responded to Prytula's comment, calling it “shameless” and adding that they “really are different Ukrainians.”

Public figure and volunteer Sergei Sternenko pointed out to Vasily that the attack was carried out by Russians, whom he called “brothers.”

“Vasya, this was done by those you still support. The Russians. Your brothers. You're a pathetic coward. And a traitor,” Sternenko wrote.

Lomachenko also responded to him, reproaching him for walking around with security after the assassination attempt on him and calling him a “talking head.”

Ukrainian users also did not mince words or express their indignation when commenting on Lomachenko’s post:

  • Your brothers did this;
  • This was done by the “Russian world”;
  • Russian rocket with the blessing of Father Kirill. Otherwise, the description is inaccurate;
  • Your Russian Orthodox Church blessed this rocket;
  • And where did she come from? Who did it? Reptilians – it is not clear;
  • Vasily, the Russian leadership did this deliberately. Perhaps you want to notice the “good Russians” who are neutral or support us, so you don’t publicly hate the Russians.

Let us recall that on June 5, Vasiliy Lomachenko announced his retirement at the age of 37. In his speech, he expressed gratitude to Top Rank, its CEO Bob Arum, as well as the United States and boxing fans.
