200 British Airways passengers were unable to fly home on time and were forced to spend Christmas at Costa Rica airport due to the repair of their windshield. Writes about this Daily News.
During the flight from London to Costa Rica, a block of ice fell onto the aircraft from another aircraft, which was higher. As a result of the incident, the windshield of the liner cracked, however, despite this, the pilots managed to land the board at the destination airport.
The incident caused a change in the departure timetable for the next aircraft on the route in the opposite direction on December 23. Passengers were informed of a 90 minute delay, but the aircraft repair was delayed by 50 hours. The tourists had to celebrate Christmas at the airport – they were able to fly back home on December 25 at 8:35 am.
It is noted that the probability of breaking a windshield from an ice hit or collision with a bird is one in a million, since the coating thickness reaches five centimeters, and its strength is comparable to bulletproof glass.
Earlier in December, a passenger on an Utair flight taking off at Tyumen airport filmed an engine that caught fire during takeoff. According to preliminary data, engine surge was the cause of the incident.
