8,100 loud fans and a clear mandatory win in round 1: The Hütteldorfer defeat Wiener Viktoria 6-0.
Rapid wins – like all favorites – and celebrates a 6-0 at the start
Starved by the 16-month Corona break, 8,100 fans can sound like a full stadium. The season opener was celebrated with a party atmosphere in Hütteldorf, and Viktoria from Vienna was the perfect guest in the 6-0 win in the first round of the Cup. Christoph Knasmüllner was outstanding with two goals and two assists.
The two most sought-after Rapid players from abroad took the lead: Max Ullmann was fouled after an advance, Ercan Kara used the penalty (9th).
The two key players remain at least for the duels with Sparta Prague. “Block West” is already sold out for the first leg on Tuesday.
Against the regional league team, the organized fan scene – for the first time since the Corona outbreak – created a mood. And as loud as if the Champions League qualification were already on the program.
After only 29 minutes, the obviously over-motivated Viktoria striker Petrovic rightly picked up yellow-red from referee Lechner after two fouls on Max Hofmann.
Toni Polster vehemently demanded penalties – and saw yellow for it
The amateurs courageously recruited by coach Toni Polster even had two chances until then – goalie Strebinger had to intervene and intervene.
The Hofmann, inspired by the captain's armband (Dibon was still sitting in the stands), headed a corner variant into the network for the decision (41.). After the break, the Greens picked up the pace. Joker Grahovac, a free kick from Knasmüllner and a dusting from the playmaker made it 5-0 after 65 minutes.
Marco Grüll made the final score on his debut as a joker with a penalty after fouling him (89th).
Rapid has to cope with a departure from the presidium: Philip Newald has risen to the position of solo managing director at tipp3 and can no longer carry out his voluntary mandate. The representative of the Austrian betting sponsor has proven himself to be a “bridge builder” to other clubs and companies since the 2019 election.
Christoph Knasmüllner: hammer free kick, double pack.
Traffic jam at the sports club
The traditionally longest queues in front of the box offices were at the Wiener Sport-Club. In the stands, the dishes (bacon sticks, pretzels) were sold out 25 minutes before kick-off. On the field, coach Robert Weinstabl's team was only able to keep up for 18 minutes in the first competitive game against the WAC since October 2020.
In the end, the Bundesliga team won 3-0 through the debut of neo-coach Robin Dutt in front of 1,604 spectators and deservedly.
No surprises
There were no other surprises either. Andreas Herzog was able to look forward to a 4-0 win against Neusiedl in his very first competitive game as a club coach.
In the 4-1 win for Salzburg in Wels, it was only 1-1 at the break, before the future goalkeeper Benjamin Sesko scored twice as a joker.
Mario Sonnleitner gave Hartberg the lead on his debut, Bad Gleichenberg was defeated 3-0.
Late debut with Admira: Herzog, 52, as a club coach
