A new especially dangerous virus is spreading in the channels and group chats of the popular Telegram messenger among Russians. This was stated by cybersecurity experts from AT&T following a special study.
We are talking about the FatalRAT remote access Trojan, which allows hackers to remotely control infected computers and phones. The main way the virus spreads is through fake links to articles in the media and to various programs and games.
Experts note that the developers of FatalRAT have laid in it a wide arsenal of ways to help avoid detection. The main harm of the Trojan is that it collects all system information and extracts any information from the infected device. At the same time, the virus can independently make changes to the settings of computers and phones, manage external connections and web browsers. FatalRAT can also steal confidential and personal data of users.
AT&T believes that this virus is a new type of threat, on the basis of which new versions of Trojans will be created.
Earlier, researchers discovered a new way to steal bank card data of users using Telegram. The robot, called the OTP Bot, has learned to receive one-time passwords from its victims, sent by banks and other services as one of the authentication steps, in a matter of minutes.
