Latvian parliamentary elections have ended. 19 political forces and associations competed for seats in the Seimas.
On Saturday, October 1, elections were held in Latvia to the Seimas, the country's unicameral parliament. Russia's war against Ukraine plays a decisive role in Latvia's domestic politics and has already affected party ratings.
This was reported by Evropeiska Pravda with reference to Delfi.
According to the results of the count, more than 90% of the votes in the elections to the Latvian parliament were won by the New Unity party of the current Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins, but the ruling coalition does not seem to get the majority of mandates.
Thus, out of the five parties of the current coalition in Latvia, only two clearly pass to the Seimas: “New Unity” (18.62%) and “National Association” (9.38%).
In second place with 13.16% is the Union of “Greens” and Peasants, which was fifth in the Seimas of the last convocation.
Next is the “Joint List” (11.25%), which broke away from the Union in a few months before the elections, but declaring readiness to work in a government of any composition.
Also, for the first time, the pro-Russian and “anti-Vaxer” party “For Stability!” (6.68%); “Latvia above all else” (6.04%).
The winner of the 2018 elections, the pro-Russian party Harmony, is now outside the 5% threshold with a score of 4.67%.< /strong>
Latvia is likely to face weeks of coalition negotiations, because no bloc of parties has a clear majority, and the previous coalition has not retained its advantage.
Recall that in Italy , which was one of the founders of the EU, for the first time since the Second World War and Benito Mussolini, a right-wing coalition won the parliamentary elections, consisting of parties where there are many supporters of the Russian dictator Putin.
