Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron

Paris has launched an investigation into a media leak about a conversation between French President Emmanuel Macron and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. This was announced on Thursday by a representative of the French Foreign Ministry, TASS reports.

“Any leak of internal confidential documents is unacceptable. For this reason, we refrain from commenting. An investigation is underway, ”said a representative of the department. He stressed that the dialogue that the president of the republic wished to establish with Russia is aimed at resolving all issues “in the spirit of frankness and exactingness”, and it will continue in this spirit.

The conversation between the presidents took place on September 14. The newspaper Le Monde later claimed that during the conversation, Putin spoke of opposition leader Alexei Navalny with contempt and even called him “a simple internet troublemaker.”

Business Insider intelligence sources indicated that the French leader, despite his loyalty to Putin, was still dissatisfied with the conversation. The conversation seriously undermined the already strained relations between Moscow and the European Union, they noted. In addition, during the conversation, Macron's pride was allegedly hurt.

Navalny became ill on August 20 during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow, the plane was landed in Omsk. There he fell into a coma, a few days later from the Omsk hospital he was transported to the Berlin clinic “Charite”. European toxicologists said that substances from the Novichok group were found in Navalny's body. His tracks were found on a bottle from under water, which his relatives took from the room of the Tomsk hotel. In September, Navalny was brought out of a coma and discharged from the Charite.
