Paralympics: Krisztian Gardos in the table tennis quarter-finals

Austria's best para table tennis player celebrated a 3-1 win over Brazilian Carbinatti.

Table tennis player Krisztian Gardos is in the quarter-finals of the Paralympics in Tokyo. The Tyrolean defeated Friday morning (CEST) in his last group game in the MS10 class against Brazilian Carlos Carbinatti 3: 1 (-6.9.5.9). On Wednesday he had won 3-0 against South African Theo Cogill, and the day after he lost 3-1 to Mateo Bohea. The French won the pool in front of Gardos. The 46-year-old has the chance to win his second Paralympic medal after bronze in 2016.

Gardos lost the first set against Carbinatti after a nervous start, but then got the game under control. The ÖPC athlete, suffering from hip osteoarthritis, sat in the player's box after his success and breathed a sigh of relief at the end: “It was really hard work. But now the next step follows. I have to improve enormously, because it's against one of the others three group winners, “said Gardos. The quarter-finals against the Montenegrin Filip Radovic will take place on Saturday from 3.20 a.m. CEST.
