A few weeks ago, Walter Ablinger won Paralympics gold in Tokyo. Now the handbiker is in hospital after a training accident.
Walter Ablinger is recovering from a serious training crash in a hospital in Rotthalmünster, Bavaria. First things first: apart from painful broken ribs, he was spared serious injuries.
The 52-year-old collided with a truck trailer while training with his handbike. He had overlooked it. In a press release, the sports star announced: “That was luck in misfortune. I was just able to avoid the drawbar.”
Ablinger won gold and bronze at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo just a few weeks ago. Now the season has ended prematurely for him. He would have wanted to start the Linz Marathon on October 24th.
But he wants to train for the year 2022 from All Saints' Day. There are a European championship in Upper Austria and a world championship in Canada.
