Kyodo: evacuation of 210 thousand people announced in seven prefectures of Japan due to the threat of a tsunami

More than 210,000 people in Japan have been strongly advised to leave their homes due to the threat of a tsunami. This is reported by the agency Kyodo.
The country's authorities issued an appropriate evacuation order after a powerful underwater eruption of the Hunga Haapai volcano in the state of Tonga. It is valid for residents of seven prefectures: Aomori, Iwate and Miyagi, Chiba, Kochi, Miyazaki and Kagoshima. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a tsunami up to three meters high is expected.
It is specified that waves of 1.2 and 1.1 meters have already been recorded in some regions of the country. There is no information about the victims at the moment.
Earlier, the Chilean authorities closed the beaches after the eruption of an underwater volcano off the islands of Tonga. Also, the threat of a tsunami has already been announced in the Kuril Islands.
