Russian striker Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin set another National Hockey League (NHL) record – most goals scored against the Detroit Red Wings. This was reported on the league's official website.
Ovechkin converted the majority at the end of the third period and brought the team forward. The puck was hammered when the Detroit player's penalty time ended. At first, the judges considered that the Russian had hit the goal while playing at full strengths. However, after the end of the game, the referees made changes to the protocol and counted the puck in the majority.
Thus, Ovechkin hit the opponent's goal for the 275th time in the majority. He broke the record of Dave Andreychuk, who had 274 goals on the account with a numerical advantage. “There are so many great players on this list. Therefore, it is very honorable to be the first in it, ”said the Russian forward.
In the first match of the new year, Ovechkin scored a double. The Russian hockey player scored 1,371 points (754 goals and 616 assists), which is now the 25th highest in NHL history.
The match took place on the night of January 1. The meeting ended with the score 3: 1 in favor of “Washington”. Among the winners, the Russian Yevgeny Kuznetsov also distinguished himself.
