Russian forward of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin entered the top 25 scorers in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL). The correspondent of “Lenta.ru” informs about it.
In his 1230th game against the Detroit Red Wings, the 36-year-old striker scored a double. The meeting ended 1: 3 in favor of the Washington Capitals. On account of Ovechkin 1,371 points (754 goals + 616 assists), which is now 25th in NHL history. He beat Boston Bruins player Johnny Buzik, who has 1,369 points (556 goals, 813 assists) in 1,540 appearances.
Wayne Gretzky is the all-time NHL goalscorer with 2857 points (894 goals, 1963 goals) in 1487 games. The top three also include Jaromir Jagr (1921; 766 + 1155) and Mark Messier (1887; 694 + 1193).
In November, Ovechkin received several stitches after hitting the puck in the face. “It was a kind of wake-up call. Thank God I haven't lost a single tooth. Nothing serious, ”the Russian said at the time.
Ovechkin has been playing for the Washington Capitals since 2005. In 2018, the hockey player, together with the team, won the Stanley Cup. He has also won the Maurice Richard Trophy eight times, which is given to the best sniper in the NHL regular season.
Previously, four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky spoke about a conversation with Ovechkin. The Canadian recalled that he spoke with the Washington Capitals striker five years ago. “What I liked was that he didn't ask me about scoring goals – he doesn't need to ask anyone about it,” he said. The Canadian was captivated by the fact that Ovechkin was primarily interested in the fact that his team won the Stanley Cup.
