Order increase in German construction in September

Great demand for city apartments drove the construction industry

The upward trend in construction in Germany continued in September. The construction industry recorded 3.6 percent more orders than in August of the current year, as calculated by the Federal Statistical Office. According to the authority on Wednesday, the price-adjusted increase in orders was 0.5 percent compared to the same month last year.

Thanks to the construction boom and the great demand for apartments, especially in cities, the German construction industry is one of the few industries that has come through the corona crisis relatively well. The main construction trade includes the construction of buildings (structural engineering) as well as roads, railways and lines (civil engineering).

According to the statisticians, incoming orders in the German construction industry totaled around 7.6 billion euros in September 2020. That was a nominal 4.9 percent more than a year earlier. On the basis of the first nine months, incoming orders remained nominally unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year.
