O'Brien noted that when different politicians begin to feel that they are the ones who should resolve the conflict, he perceives this as mediator's envy: everyone wants to be special.
US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien reported how he evaluates the so-called peacekeeping mission of Viktor Orban. He also said whether it was a subject of discussion between the Hungarian Prime Minister and US representatives here in Washington.
James O'Brien said this during an interview with Radio Liberty.
“I will not talk about any discussions. The alliance and coalition supporting Ukraine have a clear policy: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. Ukraine must win this war…” he emphasized.
O'Brien noted that when different politicians begin to feel that they are the ones who should resolve the conflict, he perceives this as the envy of the mediator. Everyone wants to be special.
“And if the message is the message of a coalition that supports Ukraine, and an alliance, then it has support. If it is (and some suspect that the message could be different) just one person offering ideas, it has no power. I think Vladimir Putin understands well enough not to trust this as a reflection of what he is facing,” he concluded.
Recall that the Financial Times, citing its own sources, writes that EU leaders are preparing a response to Viktor Orban's “foreign policy jaunts” to Moscow. After all, his attempts to conduct freelance diplomacy contradict the bloc's treaties.
