Orban believes that "it was initially clear that a Ukrainian victory was impossible".
Controversial Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that if Ukraine refuses to negotiate with Russia, it could become “the Afghanistan of Europe” Union”.
He said this in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
“We are not in a moral position to make a decision for a country under attack. But it was a mistake to let him believe that we would be on his side to victory. This is not true,” says the Hungarian prime minister.
According to Orban, it would have been easier to achieve a ceasefire at the beginning of a full-scale invasion.
“And yet so many Ukrainians died defending their country. What did they die for? This is a serious moral dilemma – fortunately, not mine. And the people who supported this crazy war strategy,” he noted cynically.
Orban denies the thesis that the West did not provide Ukraine with enough weapons. He assures that no weapons would have been enough.
“The West can only win this war if it sends its soldiers to Ukraine. And we have ruled that out. The Ukrainians simply do not have enough soldiers. That is why Trump is needed now,” the Hungarian Prime Minister noted.
In his opinion, Trump needs to sit down with Russia and Ukraine and say: “Guys, let's cease fire. This is the only way.”
“Nobody knows what's going on in Putin's head. There is no point in thinking about it. But what we need now is diplomacy. Europeans consider it moral not to negotiate. This is absurd! This is what should be done in a war! Otherwise, it will continue until destruction, and Ukraine will become the Afghanistan of the European Union,” Orban concluded.
Earlier, Viktor Orban called it a mistake that the West began to help Ukraine in February 2022.
