“Orbán resign!”: protests against the prime minister broke out near the Budapest parliament

This is a very bad time for a politician.

Protests against the government of Viktor Orban have begun in Hungary. Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets in the center of Budapest.

Reuters writes about this.

Details

As noted, the action was led by Peter Magyar, a former member of the ruling Fidesz party, who recently launched a political movement and aims to challenge the Prime Minister. Protesters marched into parliament in unusually warm spring weather, some of them shouting “We are not afraid” and “Orban resign!” Many wore the red, white and green national colors or the national flag, symbols that Orbán's party has adopted as its own for the past two decades.

Magyar also published a recording of a conversation with his ex-wife – ex-Minister of Justice Judit Varga – where she accuses a senior assistant to the head of Orbán’s cabinet of corruption. The prosecutor's office is currently reviewing these statements.

“The investigation comes at a politically sensitive time for Orbán ahead of European parliamentary elections in June and in the wake of a sex abuse scandal that toppled two of his key political allies, the former president and Varga, from power in February.” – emphasized in the publication.

People used to demand Orban's resignation because of government corruption.
