Orban proposes changing EU policy regarding the war in Ukraine

The Hungarian Prime Minister announced the theses of his report to the President of the European Council Charles Michel following the negotiations in Russia, the USA and China.

Premier -Hungarian Minister Viktor Orban, who recently held a series of international negotiations, proposes changing the EU policy regarding the war in Ukraine, including resuming diplomatic relations with Russia.

This is stated in his report to the President of the European Council Charles Michel following negotiations in Russia, the USA and China, the abstracts of which were published on the website of the Hungarian government.

According to Orban, during his meetings with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, he became convinced that “the opposing sides intend to be drawn deeper into the conflict, and none of them wants to take initiatives to end fire or peace negotiations.”

Orban named the European Union, the USA, China, and Turkey as global players capable of influencing the development of events.

At the same time, China, according to the Hungarian Prime Minister, will not play an active role role until there is confidence in the chance of success of his participation, and after Orban’s predicted victory of Donald Trump in the elections, “the proportion of the financial burden between the US and the EU will change significantly to the detriment of the EU when it comes to financial support for Ukraine.”

Therefore, Viktor Orban proposes to change the “war” policy of the European Union, “copied” in the USA.

“We have not yet had a sovereign and independent European strategy or political plan of action. I propose to discuss whether it is rational to continue this policy in the future. In the current situation we can find a window of opportunity with a strong moral and rational basis to begin a new division in our politics,” calls on the Prime Minister of Hungary, which will preside over the Council of the European Union in the next six months.

Orban proposes to create conditions for a temporary ceasefire and/or the start of peace negotiations, in particular by resuming direct diplomatic contacts with Russia.

In addition, the Hungarian prime minister proposes to hold high-level political negotiations with China and carry out a “coordinated political offensive against the Global South,” whose favor, according to him, the European Union lost because of its position on the war in Ukraine.

Recall that earlier Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that US presidential candidate Donald Trump has a peace plan to resolve the war in Ukraine.
