Orban is trying to undermine support for Ukraine with calls for peace talks – ISW

Orban has repeatedly tried to thwart assistance to Ukraine from the European Union.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is trying to divert the attention of Western countries, with the help of Ukraine, to possible peace negotiations with Russian aggressors.

His efforts are primarily aimed at undermining European support for Ukraine, says Institute for the Study of War report ( ISW ).

Orban is trying to present himself as a mediator between the parties to end the fighting in Ukraine, despite the fact that Russian dictator Putin himself has refused negotiations to end the war.

Analysts took notice of his July 5 Newsweek article, in which he accused the West of “choosing war” rather than the peace he said NATO was created to support.

“Orbán's effort to push for negotiations is likely part of his current efforts to shift the European focus to discussions about peace talks rather than discussions about military support for Ukraine,” the report said.

The Institute recalled that Orban has repeatedly tried to disrupt assistance to Ukraine from the European Union.

Recall that it was previously reported that Zelensky commented on Orban’s visit to Moscow.

In addition, we previously reported that Borrell criticized Orban’s visit to Moscow, the Hungarian Prime Minister called it “Brussels nonsense”.
