According to Zelensky, only “serious strong alliances” that can put pressure on Putin can be mediators.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky emphasized that there can be no other mediation between our state and the Russian aggressor other than the consolidated efforts of strong world states that will force Putin to stop the war.
The President stated this during a joint press conference after a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Vladimir Zelensky asked whether he sees Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as a mediator between Kiev and Moscow, who in July managed to visit Ukraine, Russia and China under the slogan of a “peacekeeping mission.”
“As for Prime Minister Orban, he was in Kyiv, after which he flew to Moscow. I did not know that he was flying to Moscow, this is his independent choice. As for whether he can to be a mediator… There is no mediation between Russia and Ukraine,” the president emphasized.
He added that mediators can only be “serious strong alliances” or even the whole world, which can force Russia to stop this war.
“This is not about mediation, this is about opportunities. You must have an economy that influences Russia, or the Russian Federation and Putin depend on it. Or you have a very powerful army, which Putin is afraid of, which is stronger Russian. Are there many such countries in the world? Not many. I think the United States is such a country, and China, and the European Union (not just one EU country, but the entire European Union) This could be a mediation mission to stop Putin. “To do this, we need to combine all efforts, because he does not respect the weak,” the President of Ukraine noted.
According to him, even if the Kremlin dictator meets with a representative of any state, this does not mean that he intends to end the war.
“He wants to demonstrate some steps, but this demonstration is always followed by a bloody demonstration, like this morning in Ukraine,” said Vladimir Zelensky.
Recall that Chinese leader Xi Jinping called on the world to help Russia and Ukraine resume direct dialogue during a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
