OPCW responded to Russia's request for Navalny

Alexey Navalny

A group of experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) responded to Russia's request and announced that it would begin investigating the situation with Alexei Navalny as soon as possible. This is stated on the website of the organization.

It is noted that the OPCW is ready to provide a group of experts for investigation. Moscow was asked to provide additional clarification about the type of expertise requested. In addition, the OPCW thanked Russia for its confidence in the organization's independence and competence.

On September 29, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused the OPCW of political engagement and bias. The diplomats pointed out that, most likely, the prepared report on the provision of “technical assistance” at the request of Germany will record the presence of traces of the Novichok poisonous substance in Navalny's bioassays.

The oppositionist became ill on August 20 during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow. In the first two days, the Russian was assisted by the doctors of the Omsk hospital. They also introduced him to an artificial coma. On August 22, Navalny was sent to the Charite clinic in Berlin.

On September 2, the German government announced that military toxicologists had found traces of a substance from the Novichok group in Navalny's body, and called on the Russian government to respond to this information. Russian doctors noted that they had not identified any poisons. In September, Navalny was brought out of a coma and discharged. Rehabilitation will take several weeks, after which he plans to return to Russia.
