The fears have been confirmed. Rapid Vienna has to do without captain Maximilian Hofmann. The central defender has already been operated on.
In the Europa League duel with Dinamo Zagreb, the 28-year-old headed the Hütteldorfer in the 34th minute for a 2-1 victory. In stoppage time, however, the game ended prematurely for the defender.
Hofmann crashed into the heated final phase with teammate Emanuel Aiwu, getting a bloody nose and a cut that had been treated on the field. The central defender was unable to finish the game and was replaced by Kevin Wimmer in the 92nd minute.
The 28-year-old was diagnosed with a broken nose. This was confirmed in further investigations. Therefore Hofmann was operated on Friday afternoon, as the green-whites announced.
The central defender's downtime is not yet known. For the Bundesliga guest appearance on Sunday in Hartberg, Hofmann will not be an issue.
The central defender's broken nose will remain part of Rapid's history. Because the green-whites already secured the blood-stained jersey of the defender for the green-white museum.
