Only these three teams can afford Haaland

Erling Haaland

Since Tuesday evening it has finally been clear: Erling Haaland will continue to be with Borussia Dortmund. But the Norwegian will probably change in 2022.

The transfer window closed at midnight on Tuesday evening. This means that a spectacular Haaland transfer is not possible for the time being. At least until January. Then the short winter transfer window will open and the rumor mill will simmer again at BVB.

However, a January exit seems unlikely, after all, the contractually stipulated Haaland exit clause will apply next summer. The ex-Salzburg man can leave Dortmund for a fixed amount of 75 million euros plus bonus payments.

The much bigger chunk, however, is Haaland's future salary. Star consultant Mino Raiola let this sound through weeks ago in talks with Chelsea FC: 50 million euros per year. In addition, the Italian himself requires an agent commission of 40 million euros for himself. Including the transfer fee, there is a total package of 365 million euros with a five-year contract.

Only three European clubs can afford this sum: Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris St.-Germain. The “Citizens” should be clearly in pole position, at least reports “Sport Bild”. Coach Pep Guardiola has to choose between Haaland and Harry Kane.

City rivals Manchester United are also in the running for the 21-year-old Norwegian. A big plus of the “Red Devils” is coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whom Haaland already knows from Molde. With the imminent departure of Paul Pogba, the financial leeway would in any case be given.

As the third club, Paris St.-Germain is of course in the race for the ex-Salzburg. If Kylian Mbappe actually leaves the French for Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, the budget for Haaland would be in place. However, the striker himself should not be very enthusiastic about a transfer to Ligue 1.

With a view to the Haaland package amounting to 365 million euros, some clubs have withdrawn. Bayern Munich is just as unable to raise this amount as the financially troubled FC Barcelona or Italy club Juventus Turin. Chelsea, who were on the Norwegian this summer and wanted to bid 175 million euros, decided in favor of Romelu Lukaku. A second star striker is probably not financially viable.

Real Madrid has always been given as Haaland's dream destination, but the club of ÖFB legionnaire David Alaba has already identified Kylian Mbappe as the number one transfer target. The striker should come on a free transfer next summer.
