Recently it became known OnePlus is integrating with Oppo, effectively becoming a sub-brand of the company. Now the media writes that the OnePlus OxygenOS shell is also being combined with the Oppo ColorOS firmware.
After the integration, the software will still remain independent and continue to serve its own regions (OxygenOS for OnePlus smartphones around the world, and ColorOS for OnePlus and Oppo devices in China). In this case, the firmware code will be shared. This should standardize the software experience as well as streamline the development process for future OxygenOS patches.
OnePlus claims the change will allow the company to improve Android support on its devices. Now flagship smartphones will receive up to three major OS updates and four years of security updates.
