However, today’s decision is not yet valid.

On Thursday, September 14, the Bulgarian parliament voted to lift the ban on import of grain from Ukraine on September 15.

This was reported by the Bulgarian media BNT News.

The decision was made after two hours of debate. 124 deputies supported him, and 69 were against. Eight people abstained. In turn, the Bulgarian opposition called the parliament's decision “national treason.”

In turn, the Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture Kirill Vatev emphasized that the proposal to lift the ban was not discussed with him the day before. However, after assessing the risks, he admitted that allowing the import of Ukrainian products will not harm the economy.

According to the head of the ministry, control over the import of Ukrainian products will be tightened, since they do not meet EU standards.

However, today's decision does not have any significance, because the ban falls at the EU level.

“This decision in practice will not have any consequences for what happens tomorrow, it’s just that the ban will still fall, but there will be a different political harm,” explains member of the Bulgarian People’s Assembly Desislava Taneva.
