The political director of Hungarian Prime Minister Balazs Orban said this in an interview with the Dutch broadcaster NOS.
It is noted that the government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has threatened a veto at the next EU summit in December, where European government leaders still have to ratify the Commission's advice.
Hungary demands from Ukraine that it fulfills the Hungarian requirements for the language of education. We are talking about the adopted language law, which obliges national minorities to receive at least 70 percent of education in the Ukrainian language.
“We cannot agree with this. Hungary’s position is crystal clear: as long as this law exists, there can be no discussions with Ukrainians about their integration into the European Union,” he said, noting that his country will block this issue until Ukraine repeals the law .
The authors of the publication write that in Brussels they fear that the Orban government will take an irreconcilable position on this issue in order to have an advantage in a completely different issue: receiving EU subsidies, to which Hungary believes it is entitled.
Journalists suggest that Budapest will lift the veto only if the country receives billions of dollars in EU subsidies.
