State Duma deputy from “United Russia” Sultan Khamzaev proposed to completely ban the sale of tobacco to one category of Russians. RIA Novosti reports.
We are talking about a ban on the sale of tobacco products to citizens born after 2014. The parliamentarian explained that in some European countries they are working to prohibit the sale of tobacco products in any form – aikos, snus, cigarettes, hookahs, electronic cigarettes, vapes – to people born after that date.
Khamzaev noted that the anti-tobacco campaign, which is being conducted in the world and in Russia, resembles a “squirrel in a wheel”, the number of smokers is growing every year. According to the federal project “Sober Russia”, which is headed by the deputy, in 2020 Russians smoked 280 billion cigarettes. At the same time, new threats appear in the form of new means of consuming nicotine.
The parliamentarian added that softer measures should be applied to smokers, and those who did not start smoking, “we must protect.”
Earlier, Sultan Khamzayev suggested placing “scary pictures” on alcoholic beverages, like on packs of cigarettes, in order to protect Russians. According to him, about 65-70 percent of the area of the package should be occupied by photographs depicting the “tragic consequences” of drinking alcohol, as well as a signature that alcohol kills in any quantity.
