The Omicron coronavirus strain has become the dominant strain in the United States, accounting for about three-quarters of the country's infections. This is reported by TASS with reference to data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States.
According to the regulator, over the past week in the United States, omicron was recorded in 73.2 percent of all confirmed cases of coronavirus infections, while a week earlier this strain had only a share of 12.6 percent.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing health officials, said that an increase in the number of patients infected with the new omicron strain is expected in the United States, despite the fact that the country's hospitals are not ready for this.
Prior to that, the director of the National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases of the United States, Anthony Fauci, predicted a difficult winter for the Americans due to the omicron strain of the coronavirus. He suggested that the number of infections in the United States will rise in the next two weeks.
