Tuomo Ylipulli

Finland mourns an Olympic champion! Olympic ski jumping champion Tuomo Ylipulli died of a stroke at the age of 56.

Together with icon Matti Nykänen, Ylipulli belonged to the “golden generation” of Finnish ski jumpers. He won Olympic gold in the team competition in Calgary in 1988, as well as the world championship title with the team in 1985 in Seefeld and 1987 in Oberstdorf. In individual competitions it was less successful for him, as it was enough to win a World Cup in 1987 in Bischofshofen.

What Ylipulli and Nykänen also have in common is an early death. While Ylipulli succumbed to a stroke at the age of 56, his former teammate died two years ago. After a dissolute life, Nykänen succumbed to health problems as a result of his alcohol abuse in February 2019.
