Olympic champion in the USSR national team Alexander Pashkov reacted to the cancellation of the 2022 World Youth Hockey Championship in Canada. He spoke to the Lenta.ru correspondent.
“Sad news, but it was difficult to act differently in the current situation. Responsibility for what happened lies, first of all, with the host side, that is, with the Canadian organizers. They were unable to provide the necessary conditions for the tournament, “Pashkov said.
The hockey player also appreciated the idea of holding the MFM-2022 in the summer. “This time of year is bad for hockey. It is difficult to gather both players and spectators. Perhaps you should think about organizing a tournament in late August – early September. Holding the MCHM in June or July is a profanation, “Pashkov added.
The idea to postpone the tournament for the summer was expressed by the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardiff earlier on Thursday, December 30. According to him, the competition can take place in June or July.
The cancellation of the youth ice hockey world championship due to coronavirus outbreaks in several teams was reported on December 29. The competition was supposed to end on January 5th.
