Morhad Amdouni
At the end of the Olympic Games, Morhad Amdouni caused a scandal. He cleared away all the water bottles. Now he explains why
It had nothing to do with fair play! France's marathon runner Morhad Amdouni outraged the Olympic Games with a particularly unfair action. He cleared away all the water bottles by hand at a refreshment station. He probably wanted to weaken the competition.
The incident occurred at kilometer 28. When Amdouni comes to the drinking water station, he clears almost the entire row of water bottles with his right hand. At the last opportunity he takes it himself. The competitors behind him go away empty-handed in temperatures of more than 30 degrees and high humidity.
Now Amdouni says on Instagram: “I was increasingly losing clarity and energy. I want to apologize to all the other athletes. I tried to grab a bottle of water, but unfortunately it fell over. It wasn't easy.” So the Frenchman asserts that his action happened unintentionally.
Sports fans around the world see it differently. Videos of the incident cause outrage on the internet. By the way, Amdouni did not benefit from his unfair action, he only finished 17th. The victory went to Eliud Kipchoge. He clearly prevailed in 2:08:38 hours from Abdi Nageeye (2:09:58) from Holland. Third place went to Belgian Bashir Abdi (2:10:00).
