Apple has released a surprise update for vintage phones. Reported by the edition 9to5mac.
The iOS 12.5.5 update is intended for older iPhone and iPad models. According to the company's engineers, the update includes “noticeable fixes” and security improvements. Installing the update is recommended for all smartphone and tablet users.
The update is available for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3, as well as the 6th generation iPod touch. All devices described do not support iOS 13, which was released in 2019. In particular, the iPhone 5s was introduced in 2013. The company does not release new features for older smartphones, but it does send security patches to them from time to time.
To update the gadget, you need to go to the appropriate section in the settings of your smartphone, tablet or player and start the installation.
Apple last updated vintage devices in June. Then the iOS 12.5.4 update was released for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, presented in 2013 and 2014, and a number of tablets.
