Oil prices rose on Tuesday, building on the gains made at the beginning of the week. A barrel (159 liters) of North Sea Brent cost 46.58 US dollars (39.14 euros) in the morning. That was 52 cents more than on Monday. At times, North Sea oil was trading at $ 46.62, the highest level since the start of the corona crisis in March. The price of a barrel of the US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose 54 cents to $ 43.60.

On the market, the rising oil prices were mainly explained with the prospect of a quick introduction of effective corona vaccines. In the meantime, vaccinations are expected to start in December. So far, the corona pandemic has only been contained with severe restrictions on public life, which have resulted in a decline in the demand for fuels and thus for crude oil.

In addition, market observers referred to the beginning of the government takeover in the USA to justify the buying mood on the oil market. After weeks of hanging, the transition between the administration of incumbent Donald Trump and the elected US President Joe Biden can begin. Trump announced on Monday evening (local time) on Twitter that he had instructed the authorities and his employees to cooperate with Biden.
