Marko Arnautovic got off the bus with only light luggage
The Austrian national soccer team moved into its EM quarters in Seefeld as scheduled on Tuesday afternoon. The ÖFB selection landed at Innsbruck Airport shortly before 3 p.m. coming from Vienna-Schwechat. The team bus picked up the players from the tarmac. From there it went straight to the Hotel Nidum near Seefeld. The German team had also prepared for the European Championship there by Sunday.
The ÖFB has rented the complex exclusively for the tournament. Due to the prescribed corona prevention concept, the players all moved into single rooms. Until shortly before the arrival of the bus in the EURO design with the inscription “Austria”, it had rained heavily in parts in Seefeld. When David Alaba and Co. entered the hotel with their suitcases in cool conditions, the rain also paused for a break.
The ÖFB team will initially stay in Tyrol until Saturday – the day of departure for the European Championship opening game against North Macedonia in Bucharest – but will also return there between games. Training takes place near the hotel in Seefeld and in the Tivoli Stadion Tirol in Innsbruck. “We find optimal training conditions here,” said ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel.
According to Schöttel, the perfect size of the hotel, the short distance to the training ground and, with Innsbruck, a smaller airport nearby would have favored Seefeld as an EM basecamp. From there, Franco Foda and his team will take off for at least the three group matches against North Macedonia (June 13), the Netherlands (June 17) and the Ukraine (June 21) to Bucharest and Amsterdam, depending on the course of the tournament.
