In today's press conference, the federal government announced extensive opening steps from May 19. Outdoor team sports, and thus also football, will be possible again from this point on in all performance levels – provided you have been tested, vaccinated or recovered.
In addition, spectators will again be allowed to an extent of up to 50% of the stadium capacity or a maximum of 3000 people. Assigned seats, wearing an FFP2 mask as well as a valid negative test result, a vaccination certificate or confirmation of an infection are also required.
Every sports facility must create a prevention concept and appoint a COVID-19 officer. The ÖFB will provide its clubs with appropriate recommendations for action. Each federal state can tighten the measures if this is deemed necessary.
ÖFB President Dr. Leo Windtner: “It is fundamentally to be welcomed that there is now clarity about the schedule and therefore planning security. Sport – and especially team sport – is essential for the mental and physical health of the population. It is very positive that football can now be played regularly in clubs again after more and more gray areas have developed in public spaces. I hope that the time leading up to the holidays will be used really well, especially in the children's and youth sector. Due to the long lockdown, many children and young people have lost their connection to sport and clubs. It will take a great deal of effort to win this back, “says the ÖFB President.
For many leagues and competitions this opening “unfortunately comes too late and the season cannot be played to the end according to plan everywhere,” continued Windtner. “A severe setback for amateur football, after the last season had to be canceled due to the corona. For these areas it is important to set the course for a real restart after this grueling time with a view to autumn of the ÖFB together with the regional associations through joint campaigns to embark on the football future after Corona. “
