The Austrian Federal Railways are operating a local and regional transport route in another country for the first time.
For the first time, the Austrian Federal Railways operate a route in local and regional traffic in another country – by means of public service orders. Since the timetable change on Sunday, ÖBB and the Slovakian ZSSK (Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko) have been on the road between Bratislava and Komarno, around 100 kilometers away, it was announced on Monday. When asked by APA, a railway spokesman said that if there were interesting opportunities, other ÖBB connections abroad could also be added.
The award to ZSSK and ÖBB comprises a contract term of two years and a transport performance of 1.2 million train kilometers per year. The new route will be operated by the same trains that are used on the cooperation route from Vienna via Marchegg to Bratislava.
Recently, ÖBB, SBB, SNCF and Deutsche Bahn also signed a letter of intent for more night trains.
